The Mathematics Department of the College of Education for Pure Sciences/University of Karbala held a panel discussion under the title (University Uniform, Study in Cultural Ecology), delivered by Prof. Nibras Hashem Yas, on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, and the focus of the discussion session was to determine the reasons for students’ dissatisfaction with the university uniform, and to identify the reasons for rejection, including: rejection of the university uniform, rejection of the idea of commitment itself, and ignorance of the significance of the university uniform and its moral and material benefits. The second axis is the focus of the discussion that the students themselves choose a uniform for the graduation photo voluntarily, as if the group photo includes one spiritual family (a batch) and not just individual graduates. Through this, the lecture concluded that the university uniform creates a collective spirit and belonging and protects students from a culture of consumption that wastes time, effort and money in buying clothes and at the same time does not give the student a utilitarian use value because clothes and colors change according to fashion and express prices and class affiliations that do not reflect an academic pattern neutral. The seminar aimed at solutions and suggestions reached by the teaching staff from those present in the seminar, including: That there be an initiative to implement the commitment to the uniform at the university, starting with the teaching staff itself, that the students themselves choose the color of the uniform they want, that each stage agrees on a specific uniform, that there are specific days in which students do not adhere to the uniform and wear what they want, For example, to have a day to revive the Arab heritage by wearing the classic Arab dress, and all of these activities leave a positive impact on the students’ subconscious that the university uniform is not a forced matter, but rather a material and moral affiliation.
