College of Education for Pure Sciences Discusses a Master’s Thesis Entitled (The Effect of Aqueous Extract of the Leaves of the Gas Plant Laurus Nobilis on Some Physiological and Histological Parameters in Male Rabbits Lepus Arcticus Treated with Monosodium Glutamine)
The Department of Life Sciences, College of Education for Pure Sciences/University of Karbala, discussed the master’s thesis entitled (The effect of aqueous extract of the leaves of the gas plant laurus npbilis on some physiological and histological parameters in male rabbits lepus arcticus treated with monosodium glutamate), by the student (Abeer Sattar Hamad Jarallah), Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rasha Abdel Amir Jawad, on Tuesday 7-9-2021, the current study aimed to know the protective role in the functional and histological parameters of aqueous extract of bay leaf at two doses in white male rabbits treated with monosodium glutamate. The thesis concluded, that oral administration of aqueous extract of bay leaves at a concentration of 400-600 mg/kg and monosodium glutamate (MSG) led physiologically and histologically to:
1- A decrease in the average level of Lipid profile, which includes V-LDL, LDL, TG, TC, and an increase in the average level of HDL, antioxidants and HB for the aqueous extract group of bay leaves from 400-600 mg/kg due to the plant containing many active compounds such as flavonoids, phenols and terpenes And soaps and unsaturated fatty acids, which makes the use of the plant as a medicinal plant can be used to treat cases of high fat, obesity and anemia.
2- A decrease in the level of hepatic enzymes ALP, ALT, and AST, as well as giving protection to liver tissue and cells from damage and damage resulting from side effects when using a specific treatment as it has protective properties to treat liver-related diseases.
3- MSG causes harmful effects on the liver tissue through its presence as an additive to foodstuffs, which causes an increase in harmful fats and oxidants, which results in the possibility of heart and kidney diseases.
4- The current study showed a clear improvement in the physiological and histological aspects of the liver when using the aqueous extract of bay leaves after using MSG through the presence of significant and certain damage if MSG is used as flavorings for foods, so it is preferable not to use it and add it to foodstuffs.
The discussion came out with several recommendations, including: studying the effect of alcoholic extract and extracts of active substances from the bay leaf plant on other organs for the possibility of benefiting from them in various medical fields, conducting a study of the aqueous extract of bay leaf with different concentrations on the tissue of the kidney, testicles, stomach, intestines, lung and nervous system and knowing its effect On some glands, the possibility of conducting intensive studies on the effect of the aqueous extract of bay leaves on diabetes and obesity by using it as a herbal compound alternative to chemical compounds to reduce sugar and fat, conducting a histological study to know the effect of alcoholic and aqueous extract of bay leaves on fetuses and placenta, increasing Awareness and health education in the media about the importance of herbal medicine for the purpose of reducing the side effects resulting from chemical drug treatments, as well as paying attention not to eat some foods containing MSG, especially children, in order to preserve their health and safety of their growth and to prevent collateral damage from taking them. The student received an honors grade.
