The College of Education for Pure Sciences discusses a Master’s Thesis Entitled (The effect of aqueous Extract of Cinnamonum Zeylanicum on Some Hematological, Biochemical and Histological Parameters in white Male Mice Induced Arthritis)
The Department of Life Sciences at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed the master’s thesis tagged (the effect of the aqueous extract of Cinnamonum zeylanicum on some blood, biochemical and histological parameters in white male mice induced arthritis), by the student (Mohammed Abbas Yousef), and under the supervision of the Head Department of Life Sciences Naseer Marza Hamza and Dr. Qaiser Abdul Sajjad Hussein. The study aimed to test the effectiveness of the aqueous extract of Cinnamon (Zeylanicum) with different doses on induced rheumatoid arthritis in male albino rats to reduce the pathological effects of the disease in light of the following axes:
A study of changes in the level of liver enzymes, which include two enzymes that transport a group of amino acids, alkaline phosphatase and transporter enzyme (Gamma-glutamyl transferase), a study of changes in the level of types of fats, which include triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein, and total cholesterol, the study of changes in the level of liver enzymes Rheumatoid factor (RF), the study of changes in the level of C-reactive protein (CRP), the study of changes in some biochemical parameters including malondialdehyde, glutathione and catalase, the study of histological changes of the cartilage of the ankle joint in the right foot of male rats.
One of the conclusions of the thesis is that CFA causes chronic arthritis with characteristics similar to human rheumatic infections. The aqueous extract of cinnamon bark contains many effective compounds, including cinnamaldehyde, eugenol, phenols, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and steroids, as well as some volatile oils. The development of rheumatoid arthritis causes pathological changes in hematological, biochemical, and histological parameters, as well as changes in the cartilage of the ankle joint. CFA causes an increase in liver enzymes, lipids, and rheumatoid factor levels. Treatment with an aqueous extract of cinnamon improves rheumatoid arthritis by affecting liver enzymes, CRP, and rheumatoid factors. Cinnamon bark aqueous extract causes slight changes in the level of hematological, biochemical, and histological parameters in white male rats, but it does not reach the level of the pathological condition.
The discussion resulted in several recommendations, including:
Study of the preventive and curative effect of the aqueous extract of cinnamon on hormones in female animals, the separation and study of the active compounds such as cinnadehyde and phenols, which are the main part of the active compounds in the plant, the study of the preventive and curative effect of cinnamon extract on other autoimmune diseases, the study of the effect of the aqueous extract of cinnamon on other tissues and organs of the body Like the liver, kidneys, and others, the use of the effective compounds of cinnamon extract in reducing the side effects of inflammatory diseases, studying the effect of cinnamon extract on body systems such as the central nervous system. The student was awarded a distinction.
