A Professor from the College of Education for Pure Sciences Publishes a Scientific Article on Cockroaches… their Medical Damage and Ways to Combat them
The Professor in the College of Education for Pure Sciences/Department of Biology, the Instructor (Yarob Mudar Jawad) obtained the acceptance to publish a scientific article under the title (Cockroaches… their medical damage and methods of combating them) by the Scientific Articles Committee at the Presidency of Karbala University after the article fulfilled all publication conditions. Assist. Prof. Dr. Yarob Mudar Jawad) mentioned that cockroaches are among the common household insects that live in human environments in contact with food and tools, as they can be seen in any place used or inhabited by humans, especially places where food is stored or eaten. About 4000 species of cockroaches are spread worldwide. The importance of cockroaches stems from their strong relationship with the human environment, as they are one of the most harmful insects to him, as they cause food pollution through the waste they leave and bacteria that cause food poisoning. As well as the bacteria and fungi that they transmit, which are dangerous pathogens. In the presence of the insect near the excrement that is not free of all kinds of microbes, it is liable to be attached to its legs, antennae, stomach, and body hairs, and through it, it moves to food, drinks, and kitchen utensils. The pollution they cause in food and the environment. Cockroaches are scavenger insects that feed on decomposing organic matter, and house dust containing droppings and parts of the cockroach’s body can lead to allergies and asthma in some individuals. Houses are a suitable environment for cockroaches to breed as they provide appropriate heat, humidity, and food sources, so their presence has become common in such environments. It is known that cockroaches feed randomly on the garbage and are present in sewage, so it is a very effective way to transmit pathogens, and thus cockroaches are mechanical carriers of various pathogens. . The difficulty of combating the American cockroach with insecticides is represented by two factors, the first of which is the emergence of a state of cockroach tolerance to the action of pesticides, that is, the emergence of physiologically resistant strains as a result of natural selection, and the other is related to the behavior of the alien cockroach from pesticides. The insecticide that matches the behavior of cockroaches reduces its repellent properties.
