The Department of Biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Karbala discussed the master thesis tagged (the effect of the aqueous extract of the red dragon fruit Hylocereus polyrhizus on the histological changes of the reproductive system of male rats treated with carbon tetrachloride), set by the student (Alaa Karim Hadi), and under the supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Ashwaq Kazem Obaid. The thesis aimed to find out the effect of the aqueous extract of the red dragon fruit Hylocereus polyrhizus on the histological changes in the testes and ureters and some physiological parameters of blood in white male rats treated with carbon tetrachloride.
The researcher was conclude that oral administration of the aqueous extract of red dragon fruit, especially the concentration of 650 mg / kg, led to an increase in the concentration of sperm in the testis and epididymis, and an increase in the level of some reproductive hormones such as testicular lipid hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and luteinizing hormone, as well as an increase in the effectiveness of Antioxidants such as a significant increase in the level of glutathione and a decrease in the levels of oxidizing substances such as a moral decrease in malondian aldehyde, which reduce the histological, physiological and biochemical changes in the testes and epididymis caused by carbon tetrachloride, the possibility of using red dragon fruit to improve male fertility An increase in fat oxidation and an increase in oxidative stress represented by a significant increase in the level of malondialdehyde, as well as a significant decrease in the levels of reproductive hormones such as testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, and a significant decrease in the level of sperm concentration in the testes and epididymis, the occurrence of damage in testes and epididymis tissues, causing a significant decrease in the levels of the diameters of the seminiferous tubules, The diameters of the culverts and their cavities and the thickness of the epithelial layer, which leads to reduced or absent fertility of male rats treated with carbon tetrachloride.
The discussion resulted in several recommendations, including:
Study of the preventive and curative effect of red dragon fruit extract in laboratory animals inducing cancer, the study of the effect of alcoholic extract of red dragon fruit on some biochemical and hormonal parameters of white female rats, and study of the active compounds in red dragon fruit extract after isolation to reduce the side effects resulting from toxicity Induced by some chemicals, and histological studies were carried out to find out the effect of the aqueous extract of red dragon fruit on the tissues of the pancreas and adrenal glands, and the study of the therapeutic effect of the extract of red dragon fruit in male rats in which diabetes was induced, and a study was conducted to show the effect of carbon tetrachloride on the female reproductive system of rats. And the extent of their accumulation and impact on her fetus. The student was got an excellence grade.
