The Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences obtains a patent in the field of chemistry

Patented

The Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control of the Ministry of Planning granted a patent to a joint work team between the University of Karbala (College of Education for Pure Sciences / Department of Chemistry) and the University of Babylon (College of Pharmacy / Department of Chemistry), number (6325) on 9/13/2020. and tagged Titled:

Synthesis of a low-cost, high-efficiency inhibitor of corrosion of carbon steel using the Azo-Chef derivative as an environmentally friendly material.

The head of the patented team, Prof. Dr. (Hamida Idan Salman), Dean of the College of Education for Pure Sciences, said: A new aromatic derivative has been created that contains an amino bond and an azo bond. The new compound (M2) was used as a corrosion inhibitor of carbon steels at low concentrations (0.005, 0.01, 0.02 and 0.04 mM) with a very low concentration of tween 80 (0.001 g / L). Static stress studies showed that (M2) has excellent corrosion inhibition efficiency, 96.6% at 0.04 mM at a temperature of 303 K. Measurements of the weight loss method gave evidence of the results as the inhibition efficiency reached 97.4% in the presence of 0.04 mM of (M2). The adsorption process was found to be compatible with lancmaier’s iso-thermate (Kads = 526.31, 416.66, 285.71, 200.00) M-1 (ΔG = -25.90, -26.14, -25.97, -25.78) kJmol-1, at temperatures (303, 313, 323). , 333 (absolute, respectively. These values indicate the spontaneity of the formation of the protective layer through the process of physical adsorption. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques have been used to establish the reliability of the efficiency by comparing the surface of the corroded alloy with the surface of the alloy submerged in the damper solution.
