College of Education for Pure Sciences Discusses a Master’s Thesis Entitled (A Morphological Taxonomic Study of Some Species of the Bivalve Cultivar Bivalvia (Mollusca: Bivalvia) for the Central Region of Iraq)

Discussion of a Master’s Thesis

Department of biology at the College of Education for Pure Sciences/University of Karbala discussed a master’s thesis entitled (A morphological taxonomic study of some species of the class Bivalvia (Mollusca: Bivalvia) for the central region of Iraq), for the student (Ali Abdul Razzaq Noah) and under the supervision of Asst.Prof. Dr.. Hanan Zuer.
The study aimed to record and describe some types of bivalves in fresh water in some central regions of Iraq, and to find out if there were new species or new records during the study. Molecular detection and testing of using molecular data to identify some types of bivalves in Iraq, and recording the locations and dates of collecting samples.
The study concluded that a new record of four species of oysters: Sinanodonta woodiana, Unio Delphinus, Unio mancus, and Unio elongatulus was obtained for the first time in Iraq. The results of nitrogen base analysis in oysters of the type Sinanodonta woodiana showed 100% affinity with global isolates (KU891642.1), (KX424977.1) and (MG742232.1) belonging to Malaysia, the Philippines and China, respectively. Which belong to the countries of France, and Spain respectively.
The researcher recommended that the COI gene can be used to identify individuals belonging to the same species, as well as to distinguish between individuals of different species. Conducting research in which the molecular PCR technique can be used to identify the types of oysters in the salty and saline waters inside the country and not be limited to fresh water only, conducting an environmental and phenotypic study to collect samples that includes all or most of the governorates of Iraq and from all water resources of fresh, salty and brackish water (rivers, lakes and ponds). and tables) and a wider period of time to obtain new species and fortify the animal group for Qatar from this group. The student got excellence grad.
