A Lecturer from the Department of Biology Publishes a Scientific Article on the Association of Cancer with Genetic Mutations and Polymorphism of Genes

Scientific Article

The lecturer in the College of Education for Pure Sciences / Department of Biology, Assistant Prof. Dr. (Zainab Nizar Jawad), obtained an acceptance to publishing a scientific article entitled (The association of cancer with genetic mutations and polymorphism of genes) by the Committee of Scientific Articles in the Presidency of the University of Karbala after the article fulfilled all the conditions Publishing. (Professor Dr. Zainab Nizar Jawad) stated that cancer is a serious challenge and a major cause of death in the world, which affects any part of the body, as it appears in the form of abnormal growth of cells in the body due to a defect in the normal cellular systems that control The cells divide and multiply, which leads to their continued growth outside the control of the body and the formation of abnormal cells, which results in masses of tissue known as tumors, which are either benign tumors, which are non-hazardous tumors similar to the tissue cells from which they originated and are not spread to nearby areas of the body, or they are Malignant tumors, which are more dangerous because they spread and invade tissues and organs of the body and move to other distant areas in the body.
Scientists have been interested in studying cancer since it was discovered until present time and in all its aspects, due to the great danger it poses to human life. Cancer cells have irregular cellular activity and the ability to hide from the immune system. Therefore, one of the most important research related to cancer is diagnostic research, because the earlier the diagnosis, the greater the probability of recovery and the success of treatment. One of the means of diagnosis and early detection of cancer is the molecular detection of genetic mutations and polymorphism of genes. Genetic polymorphisms are natural genetic variations in the sequence of genes that can increase the risk of cancer by affecting the metabolic enzymes encoded by those genes. Causing the emergence of prostate cancer, therefore, polymorphism in genes is one of the main factors that cause cancer genetically through the genetic deficiency in detoxification pathways for environmental carcinogens.
